Vernique BioTech Ltd is a UK based company developing industrial and pharmaceutical markets for Vernonia Oil, a unique naturally epoxidised oil contained in the seeds of Vernonia galamensis, a plant native to Ethiopia in East Africa.

The Government of Ethiopia has granted Vernique BioTech the exclusive global rights to develop and commercialise the pharmaceutical and industrial potential of vernonia oil. This agreement complies with the United Nations treaty known as the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

Vernonia oil is the world’s only naturally available source of Epoxy Resin – a vital chemical in a wide range of industries, now produced entirely from petroleum. Nature sourced vernonia oil is an ideal economic and sustainable replacement for many conventional epoxy resins. It is technically superior (and economically competitive) to artificially epoxidised vegetable oils such as ESO (soybean).

Vernonia oil is biodegradable and poses no pollution problems – unlike conventional epoxies which are  major atmospheric pollutants that emit VOC’s – volatile organic compounds (urban smog). Stringent new anti-VOC solvent laws are now coming into force in the United States and the European Union.
